Philip N. Kaplan

Philip N. Kaplan 

Philip N. Kaplan serves as GameWorks’ chairman and chief executive officer, a role to which he was appointed in the summer of 2018. In this capacity, Kaplan leads day-to-day business operations and directs the Company’s growth and expansion.

Kaplan brings nearly 30 years of diverse business operational experience at both public and private companies to his leadership role. He has established a proven track record in leading strategic operations and helping companies scale to achieve rapid growth.

Over the course of his extensive career, Kaplan held myriad management positions in which he directed efforts surrounding corporate mergers, acquisitions, integrations and reorganizations. Most recently, Kaplan was managing partner of April Mountain Properties, LLC, a family owned real-estate company that owns and operates residential rental properties. Prior, he was chief executive officer and board member at private equity-held dbtech, a leader in healthcare workflow automation solutions. Kaplan also served as chief operating officer and board member of Quality Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:QSII), a healthcare IT company. Earlier, he co-founded and served as president, chief operating officer and Board member at VitalStream Holdings, Inc., a publicly traded Nasdaq company that enabled entertainment and media clients to deliver video and audio experiences to global online audiences. VitalStream was acquired by Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP).

Currently, Kaplan is a member of the board of directors of the online action sports company, Surfline.com. He graduated University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with a minor in Russian Language.

Darren Des Roches 

Darren currently serves as chief operating officer, a position he assumed in March 2018, after holding various roles within GameWorks since joining over the past 15 years. Formerly, he was senior vice president of operations and an area director.

Des Roches brings 35 years of hospitality experience to the Company, having worked in different roles at JBC Entertainment, a food and entertainment operator of family entertainment centers across the U.S. He was general manager of Jillian’s flagship San Francisco location, a multi-faceted entertainment venue. Earlier, he was a founding partner in La Costa Restaurants Corp., a Canadian-based Mediterranean casual fine dining concept.

Originally hailing from Canada, Des Roches began his career working in a variety of hospitality settings with many talented culinarians and industry leaders.

Jonathan Tang 

Jonathan currently serves as the chief financial officer and is a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of experience in finance and professional services. Before joining GameWorks, Tang led finance, administration, tax and treasury, risk management, regulatory compliance and human resources as the chief financial officer and chief compliance officer of Greenoaks Capital, a leading San Francisco-based investment firm focused on e-commerce. Concurrently, he was also the chief financial officer of Greenoaks Global Holdings, a London-based group offering insurance solutions in emerging markets.

Prior to that, he was a partner at Deloitte where he advised start-ups as well as listed companies of all sizes and stages of life. Tang has helped numerous technology, software/SaaS, e-commerce, social media, gaming, life science, renewable energy, and consumer products companies navigate periods of growth and transformational change.

He began his finance career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in San Francisco. Tang is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in California and Washington. He holds both a Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy in Taxation from Brigham Young University.

 
   
Kelli Spence

Kelli Spence 

Kelli currently serves as Vice President of People and Culture, and graduated with a Psychology degree from Arizona State University and has used that education in the Human Resources field for the past 19 years, 12 of those in a leadership role. Throughout her career, she has worked in many different industries spanning Retail and High-End Beauty supply and services, Technology, Pharmaceutical, Higher Education, Professional Services, Hospitality and in the FEC market. 

Kelli is regarded as a true Thought Partner to Business Leaders and C-Level Executives, guiding them on employee relations, management development, strategic business planning, and succession planning. Her experience covers the vast competencies and areas of focus in Human Resources with an emphasis on multi-state compliance, policy development and implementation, benefits design and administration, performance management and coaching, compensation, talent acquisition, training and development, leave of absence, employee engagement, and worker’s compensation. She is seasoned in creating efficient and compliant processes for businesses with minimal impact upon the day to day, many times doing so as the sole member of the Human Resources Department and while extraordinary growth in these businesses has occurred.

Kelli is considered to be an approachable professional whom employees and managers alike willingly seek out for guidance and assistance in their daily lives.

 
   
Mike Sadowski

Michael Sadowski 

Michael serves as the chief marketing officer for GameWorks. Sadowski is a proven business leader who brings 20 years of experience in Marketing, Analytics, Operations and Finance across multiple industries.

Prior to joining GameWorks in January 2019, Sadowski was the VP of Operations and General Manager for Kelley Blue Book Co., Inc (KBB), a brand within Cox Automotive. In this position, Sadowski was responsible for the KBB brand performance as well as overall business operations. Prior to this role, Sadowski also led the marketing, analytics, sales operations and finance organizations within KBB.

Before joining KBB, Sadowski served as vice president of finance for Quality Systems, Inc./ NextGen Healthcare, Inc (NASDAQ: QSII/NXGN), and led the financial planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and treasury functions.  Prior to working at Quality Systems, Inc., Sadowski worked as a consultant specializing in acquisition integration and turnaround management. Before his consulting work, Sadowski spent over eight years with GE (NYSE: GE) in multiple divisions and various functions.

Sadowski holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Massachusetts and an MBA from University of Southern California.
