SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF., May 20, 2019 – JLL, a leading professional services firm that specializes in real estate and investment management, announced today the Company will align with GameWorks, Inc., a full entertainment and dining experience for millennials, teens and families, to expand its concept nationwide. Currently, GameWorks operates seven entertainment centers in seven states.  Averaging 20,000-30,000 square feet, each facility boasts an esports lounge, large arcade gaming floor and its store-within-a-store, Modern American branded restaurant concept, The Works Kitchen at GameWorks. Some locations feature other entertainment options such as virtual reality experiences and laser tag.

GameWorks is planning to bring its integrated and exciting entertainment concept and esports lounges to an increasing number of U.S. cities. Partnering with JLL will help identify strategic locations ripe for its demographic and concept. JLL’s Scott Wetzel and Joe Bevan are overseeing site selection and transaction services for GameWorks.

GAMEWORKS, INC. TO HOST LARGE, NATIONAL SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT; ESPORTS PRIZE POOL VALUED AT $25,000

The Showdown Tournament Featuring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to be Held at all Seven GameWorks Venues

SAN FRANCISCO … April 16, 2019 … GameWorks, Inc., a full entertainment and dining experience for millennials, teens and families, announced today it will host one of the largest national esports tournaments to date for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game. The GameWorks Showdown tournament will be held across all seven GameWorks venues nationwide. It is expected to attract thousands of players throughout the country between all the locations.

An impressive lineup of tournament sponsors has been secured, including COUGAR, the official Platinum Level Event Sponsor, a manufacturer and provider of gaming gear, which are featured in many GameWorks esports lounges; Gold Level Event Sponsor, Alienware, a leading gaming laptop and desktop manufacturer (wholly owned subsidiary of the world’s largest PC maker, Dell); and, Silver Level Event Sponsor Tabasco, makers of the special, original red pepper sauce.

The GameWorks Showdown competition features a large winners pool consisting of both cash and prizes valued at $25,000. This includes Alienware products, such as an Area 51M gaming laptop, culminating in a grand finals cash prize of $10,000.

The process for the tournament begins with GameWorks holding three local qualifier points rounds weekly at each of its locations nationwide, with the first on Sunday, May 12, 2019, followed by those on consecutive Sundays, May 19 and May 26. Each qualifier will begin at approximately 10:00 A.M. local time. On Friday, June 7, 2019,a last chance regional qualifier points round will also be held at each location, with a start time of approximately 6:00 P.M. local time.

Fourteen players from the three local qualifiers and two from the last chance qualifiers at each of the seven GameWorks locations will move on to the regional qualifiers, for a total of 16 from each venue or 112 combined. Winners will be determined by most points scored during play. The regional qualifiers will then be held at all seven GameWorks locations on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. At the conclusion of the regional tournament, one winner from each location, or seven in total, will prevail. They will be eligible to participate in the national competition, with travel expenses paid by GameWorks, to be held at GameWorks Las Vegas – Town Squareon Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.

In addition to the seven qualified players, there will be a last chance national qualifier the night before the grand finals, held at GameWorks Las Vegas – Town Square on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 6:00 P.M., and the one winner from this competition will join the seven regional champions as they continue to battle it out for the grand final cash prize pool of $10,000.

Admission fees are as follows:

  • Local Qualifiers, Weeks 1-3 = $30 entry fee per week
  • Last Chance Local Qualifier, Week 4 = $50 entry fee
  • Last Chance National Qualifier = $50 entry fee

Expansion of Management Team to Support and Fuel Company’s Growth; Focus on Esports Leadership Position and Integrated Entertainment Offering

            SAN FRANCISCO … January 28, 2019 … GameWorks, Inc., a full entertainment and dining experience for millennials, teens and families with seven locations nationwide, announced today the appointment of several key executives to its senior management team.

            Jonathan Tang was appointed to the post of chief financial officer, responsible for leading and managing all financial functions of the Company. With more than 25 years of diverse finance and professional services experience, Tang has worked with companies spanning the technology, software/SaaS, e-commerce, social media, gaming, life science, renewable energy, real estate, and consumer products sectors. Prior to joining GameWorks, Tang led finance, administration, tax and treasury, risk management, regulatory compliance and human resources while serving as chief financial officer and chief compliance officer for Greenoaks Capital, a leading San Francisco-based investment firm. Concurrently, he was also chief financial officer of Greenoaks Global Holdings, a London-based group offering insurance solutions in emerging markets. Previously, Tang spent seven years at Deloitte in various roles, including international tax partner and senior manager in the Silicon Valley office. Tang spent the formative years of his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in San Francisco, where he began as an associate. Eventually, he made his way to the Silicon Valley office where he left as a director. Over the course of his extensive career, Tang has served clients of all sizes and stages of life, advising management as they navigated periods of growth and transformational change.

GameWorks also promoted Company and entertainment industry veteran Darren Des Roches to the role of chief operating officer. In this capacity, Des Roches oversees day-to-day operations at GameWorks’ venues. During his 15-year tenure with GameWorks, Des Roches also held the position of senior vice president of operations as well as area director. Des Roches, with 35 years of hospitality experience, worked in various roles at JBC Entertainment, a food and entertainment operator of family entertainment centers across the U.S. He also was a founding partner in La Costa Restaurants Corporation, a Canadian-based Mediterranean fine dining concept.

Concurrently, Michael Sadowski, who has 20 years of experience in marketing, analytics, operations and finance across multiple industries, was named to the newly created position of chief marketing officer. He will focus on leveraging data and technology to enhance the guest experience — particularly for new and innovative esports and video gaming — further optimizing all the entertainment options GameWorks has to offer. Prior to joining GameWorks, Sadowski was vice president of operations and general manager for Kelley Blue Book Co., Inc. (KBB), a brand within

Cox Automotive. He was responsible for the KBB brand performance and overall business operations. Earlier, in various roles, he led the marketing, analytics, sales operations and finance organizations. Before KBB, Sadowski was vice president of finance for Quality Systems, Inc., a publicly traded healthcare IT company, where he led the financial planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions and treasury functions. Sadowski began his career with GE, serving in multiple divisions and various functions.
